What Are You Committed To?

By icjackson1913 | July 2, 2008

My apologies for being M.I.A. for almost two weeks now - I was working on a HUGE expansion; my proofreading and editing businessis now a full publishing outfit! http://www.jcpublishing.com

Yay!

However, this announcement does not simply serve as shameless self-promotion; it actually leads into today’s post. Because I am finding my greatest home business success with my writing, and I am totally committed to using those related talents to increase my net worth, things are happening. My business is growing. I’m seeing the light at the end of the “paying-my-dues” tunnel. So, I took some time away from everything else to nurture that particular income stream.

You do know that I have MULTIPLE streams of income, right? You do, too; don’t you?
So, the other streams that I am not as committed to at this time do not always perform at the level that I want. Which brings us to the question - what are you really committed to?

Business analyst and online social networker Larry Brauner writes often about critical success factors, the first of which being commitment. You will succeed at what you are truly committed to, and only what you are committed to.

Are you really committed to your home businesses? It’s not a bad thing to have a “pet project” that you work on slowly until the time comes when you can be more committed (I have one of those), but it’s unrealistic to expect to make any significant amount of money from such a venture until you are totally committed.

So, where are you right now? Does your commitment justify your expectations?

To your continued success,

I.C. Jackson

You Don’t Have to Have a Big Business to Make a Big Difference

By icjackson1913 | June 17, 2008

It’s simple, really - it’s not about how big your business is, but about how big a difference you make in the lives of your customers.

Think about it - what big difference does YOUR business make in the lives of consumers?

If you have to think for a minute to come up with the answer, something is wrong. You have got some work to do, either in redirecting your focus, identifying your real target market, the product itself, or all of the above. Usually, you just need to market what you already have to the right people to make your “big difference“ manifest.

Remember, if you make a big difference, you WILL make a big profit.

To your continued success,

Just Because You CAN Do It Yourself, That Doesn’t Mean That You Should!

By icjackson1913 | June 17, 2008

This is a very costly lesson to learn if you decide to learn it the hard way. I know this because I am recovering from DIY-OCD - seriously. I am the queen of crafts and all things DIY, and I am learning how not to be a perfectionist, so you can already see the picture of biz disaster that I am painting for you. While my finished products happen to be better than most (I am an artist, so I really can produce good quality stuff from my desktop), when it comes to my bottom line and yours, it’s just not worth it.
Why?

Because time is money, and your reputation is always on the line, especially as a home business owner. If you try to do everything yourself just because you technically CAN do those things yourself, you will compromise your precious time as well as the quality of the finished product (in most cases, and I do mean most).

Let me tell you a story…

3 Steps to Streamlining Your Online Social Networking (Or How Not to Spend All Day on Facebook)

By icjackson1913 | June 2, 2008

It’s the trap that most home business owners who market online fall into - the black hole of the internet. You learn that forums and Web 2.0 sites are the way to network, so you get in and then you get sucked in. You try to justify the hours you spend replying to non-business related posts and sending strangers glittery greetings by telling yourself that it’s necessary to grow your business, but you have a gut feeling that you are just wasting time.

Well, honeybun, you’re right. About the wasting time part.

However, if you learn what to do and what NOT to do, you will be doing more productive online social networking, and the proof will be in the prospects and the conversion.

Here are 3 ways to streamline your online social networking so that you can spend more time offline actually doing business!

Working Through the Memorial Day Weekend

By icjackson1913 | May 26, 2008

As a home business owner, I have the unique opportunity to work right on through the holiday weekend. It’s not glamarous, but it’s a great way to stay a step ahead of the competition.

There’s nothing wrong with taking the weekend off to spend time with family and friends if you are blessed enough to be able to do that. However, workaholics like myself can rest easy knowing that we aren’t losing two or three days that we’ll have to make up during the week!

Have a great Memorial Day if you will be picnicing and the like, but if you’re glued to a computer like me, leave a comment here on the blog or hit me up on Twitter - I’ll be around!

To your continued success,

I.C. Jackson

Extra Cash for Bloggers - Great Opportunity for Home Business Owners Who Blog

By icjackson1913 | May 26, 2008

Hey gang,

Home business owners who blog usually do so, at least in part, for monetary reasons. A blogger friend of mine told me about a blog monetizing opportunity that I am now using, so I’m sharing it with you!

Pay Per Post connects advertisers with bloggers who reach their target markets and creates opportunities for those bloggers to be compensated for sharing with their readers. The good thing is that the posts are not cleverly disguised Jedi mind tricks - they’re more like commercials on your blog channel. Plus, you can use blog posts like this one to actually drive traffic to your blog!

So, with gas prices climbing, this may be a cool and easy way to keep up. If you have the right kind of blog, you can really clean up - I’ve seen some members who make over $1,000 a month doing this. I wouldn’t recommend it unless it was legit, and I officially recommend it :-)

To your continued success,

I.C. Jackson
